Happy caturday! Today’s caturday topic? Cat tongues.
No, not those biscuits they sell in Europe. Actual cat tongues.
Exactly!
Anyone who’s ever had a cat unexpectedly lick their fingers will be able to tell you that a cat’s tongue is coarse and sandpapery. That’s because it’s covered in tiny hooks which are made of keratin – just like bristles and claws.
So essentially, cats have their own built in hair brush. Perfect for an animal which spends so much time preening itself! And also very useful for an animal which can’t really use its lips to eat and drink the way humans do.
Anyway, kitty tongue bristles and many more things are covered in this rather smart little video, courtesy of YouTube channel Deep Look. If you’re fond of fuzzy animals with four legs, or not so fuzzy animals with more than four legs, you should go and take a look.
It’s a good thing I’m posting this on a Saturday, because you might find yourself staying there awhile…
