“Follow the Leaders”

This street sculpture by Isaac Cordal from 2011 is called “Electoral Campaign” and is part of a larger series called “Follow the Leaders“. The intention was to highlight the fact that we live in a society run by a system which needs to change before it collapses, and the faceless men in suits who we have no choice but to follow.

But I think the parallel meaning found by the internet is every bit as powerful…

You may have seen photographs of this sculpture circulating under the name “Politicians Debating Climate Change.” Which seems really quite poignant, while still being in keeping with the message the artist had intended to deliver.

Isaac Cordal, incidentally, has constructed sculptures centred on climate change in the past too.

Either way, let’s hope the politicians choose to act in the best interests of our species and not in the best interests of their bank balances.
