And now for something completely different…

A 140 year old lobster! I didn’t realise lobsters could live for so long… Apparently though it’s not uncommon for them to live for over 100 years.

Crustaceans are cool.

Well, the tastiest part of a lobster is the claws. They also never stop growing throughout their life, so an older lobster will have bigger meatier claws — which is probably why he was sold to a restaurant!
All the same, I don’t think I’d feel good about eating an animal so venerable — even if I do like a bit of lobster from time to time…

Wow crazy indeed. I wonder if older lobsters taste better or worse than younger ones…

    Yay lobster! :)
Yeah, I was a little apprehensive too at first — though if they’d eaten the critter, there would’ve been more outrage in my post.
Frankly, I’m not normally against eating lobsters, but an animal that’s lived for that long deserves some respect!
Actually, I wanted to get a crayfish to keep in my aquarium, but sadly the only types you can buy in this country are too big to live in there comfortably…

At first I was sad because I read the poor thing’s age and saw him precariously positioned on the plate, and I was imagining his fate… usually lobster + plate = bad things for lobster! And he just looks so cheerful in the photo…
Then I read the article and it made my day. Yay for releasing it. Or maybe put it in a lovely aquarium someplace where he could be happy and well taken care of? Blah. Whatever works for the lobster. ^_^
    Arthropod love. <3
