C’est la vie…

So it seems our ESO proposal for telescope time was declined. Which is a sad shame of epic proportions, given how interesting the star we were hoping to observe actually is. Interesting molecular emission lines and an atypical circumstellar environment could make for some fascinating observations. Unfortunately, I don’t know how much of this has been published, so I’m not really at liberty to elaborate any more about what and where this star might be.

Perhaps we were over-ambitious. Perhaps we need to send some applications to smaller telescopes too (after all, some data is better than no data). Perhaps the reviewer didn’t entirely understand what we were proposing. Such is the way with proposals, so I’m told.

Ah well. Onward and upward.

Small consolation to me that I wasn’t first author on the proposal and didn’t really get the opportunity to put in a huge amount of input. But all the same, cheers. Good luck to both of us for future proposals, huh? :)

Commisserations on that – proposals aren’t much fun! I’ve tried to write two, and not even got as far as submitting either of them. Sill, better luck next time!

Yeah, we probably will. Strengthen the science case a bit, and perhaps emphasise exactly why we believe this star to be so important. I certainly think we should!
    Heh… Cheers. :)

  4. That sucks. Can you revise it and re-submit it? Better luck next time!
